Science, Technology, Engineering and Math
at Tri-Central Elementary

Tri-Central Elementary is currently in the process of applying to become one of the only STEM certified elementary schools in our area. Through strong and collaborative partnerships with our local agencies and businesses, our students and staff have become leaders in workforce development and career readiness in the STEM fields.

The characteristics that set our school apart from other traditional schools are we view education and curriculum through the STEM lens, focus on 21st Century skills, and promote interdisciplinary learning. At Tri-Central Elementary, we instill a STEM culture in both our staff and students by actively seeking knowledge and skills which allow us to be effective STEM leaders.

Our school completed our 1:1 device launch in 2015. Students in grades pre-K and kindergarten currently have iPads. Students in grades first through fifth have HP Stream laptops. All students have access to an instructional technology classroom where they receive weekly training on multiple devices as well as STEM experiences. We also have a new state-of-the-art STEM lab open to all classrooms and the community. These resources allow our staff to enhance the relevance and engagement of our curriculum for our students.

The STEM instructional leadership team includes one classroom teacher, the high ability coordinator, and the technology instructor/coach that recognize the importance of making professional connections beyond our school.

Our Professional Learning Communities (PLC) consisting of department/grade level teachers meet weekly during daily common prep time. In compliance with PL 90, we use a modified RISE teacher evaluation process to develop each teacher individually. With the implementation of STEM aligned curriculum, we measure outcomes that allow us to differentiate and enrich our instruction.

Tri-Central Elementary STEM efforts have led to community partnerships with Fiat Chrysler Automotive and our local Tipton County 4-H Extension Office. We are also a C.L.A.S.S. school (Connected Learning Assures Successful Students). These growing alliances with industry and community partners have led to authentic opportunities for our students.
